 Just moving a RFE filed at SourceForge a while ago (text has been slightly
 edited):

 I find the "New message" menu item very useful, it is cool to be able to
 open IM windows without having to open buddy list window first (I access
 it through the
 status bar icon). However, even though the new instant message dialog
 offers name completion, IMHO having to type names every time is
 counterproductive -- specially
 because I usually send IMs to the same (small) group of people. SMS
 messaging on cell phones solves this very same issue this way: you have
 the chance to choose the recipient from the list of recently (or most)
 used numbers.

 I guess that this could be improved in someways:

 - having a dropdown on the "new IM" dialog with the N last used buddies
 (or the N most used buddies -- this could be configurable through
 preferences)

 - having the list of last/most used buddies also as a sub-item of the "new
 message" item, along with a "other..." option that would show the "new IM"
 dialog
