Comment:

 I suspect there is significant confusion going on here.  We do not host an
 IRC server, but rather use that at irc.freenode.net.  We do however host a
 jabber server, though not one with open registration.

 None of Pidgin's current developers has the time to write general
 tutorials on the protocols.  For the more open protocols, these exist
 elsewhere on the internet if you google search for them.  IRC and Jabber
 both fall in this category.
