Comment (by brettalton):

 Sorry I haven't replied in 5 days, http://developer.pidgin.im/login was
down for that length of time. I tried sending a message to the Trac e-mail
system Pidgin has set up, but it failed.

Here is my original message, referring to 2.0.2 and not 2.1.0 which was
 recently released:

If you look at the new screenshot attached
 (http://developer.pidgin.im/attachment/ticket/2295/Windows_Live_Messenger_%28logon_screen%29.png),
you will see that every MSN user that uses MSN Messenger/Windows Live
 Messenger knows
their "screen name", "login", "username", etc. as "E-mail Address".

To me, and many others that I have set up on Linux, "screen name" sounds
like the custom 'fun' name that you can enter after logging in. It took me
a while to realize I had to put my E-mail address there. I wasn't sure
what "Local Alias" was either (because why would I have a local alias??? I
can enter anything in there and I never see it used), so I would enter in
my E-mail address for that too.

You see, this also brings me to the point that the whole MSN interface on
Pidgin is illogical (or at the very least 'too different' from MSN
Messenger) because you can set a local alias (as mentioned above) and it's
never used. Also, you set "Accounts > $email_address > Set Friendly Name"
for your 'fun' name (as mentioned above), so why is 'Set Friendly Name'
only in the 'Accounts' menu but not the 'Accounts' dialogue/window?

The other thing that bothers me is the avatar selection. You can set an
avatar in the 'Accounts' dialogue/window but you ALSO can in the bottom
right-hand corner of the main Pidgin dialogue/window, but NOT in the
'Accounts' menu. The two avatars (1. in the 'Accounts' menu, 2. in the
bottom right-hand corner) don't even correlate with each other. One can be
set to imageK and the other set to imageL. The one set in the 'Accounts'
menu then overrides any image that appears in the bottom right-hand
corner. To me, all of this is VERY confusing.

I'll make separate tickets if need be, but thank you for listening.
