 I'll try to give you more information.
 I just compiled the latest "unmodified" versione of pidgin, and run with
 pidgin -d
 The latest attachment contain the output, where I replaced some "sensible"
 information.
 I checked settings, but everything is good.

 Next I applied my "workaround" for BASIC authentication and everything
 runs well.

 Tell me if you need more debug or whatelse.
