 There are already several tickets in Synergy for these types of lockups
 (though not for Gaim specifically, but this isn't a Gaim specific issue).
 You have to look many, many months back to find them. Synergy development
 is apparently stalled and has been for quite some time, so don't hold your
 breath on this getting fixed. I've stopped using Synergy and I don't plan
 to go back to it in the future. Such a promising program, but yet another
 casualty of maintainer boredom.
