I was in a similar situation with a regular AOL account from years ago
that I thought I'd try to log into. I was entering the pass with the right
mix of upper and lower case which worked in AIM 6.1, but didn't work in
pidgin.
Now the sort-of-good news, by typing the pass in pidgin all lower case I
was able to log in. I say sort of because smashing case on the password
may make it easier for the masses, but it takes away entropy from those of
us who remember our passwords.
