 While transferring (mostly big) files, the system/pidgin slows down really
 much. The memory is not the problem, 'free' has good values.
 Even typing gets so slow that it is hardly usable.

 I experienced this on many computers and my friend also has this issue.

 Using Linux here, Ubuntu 7.04.
