 Some more details:  If I set a PNG icon, they see nothing. But if I set a
 jpg icon it works, although it appears small. (about 1/4 the size of
 everyone else's icons).  GIF also works, and also comes out small.  this
 is for a 64x64 icon.

 If I set the icon to 96x96 it's closer -- nearly full size.  If I set it
 to 128x128, it finally works.

 I suspect that ichat expects icons to be 128x128, and that pidgin needs to
 resize icons to this size before sending them out to other clients.
