 "attempt to send presence before roster retrieved" is a message that
 pidgin prints out, it has nothing to do with the server. I'm unclear why
 the sending of the room joining presence doesn't trigger that message
 though (unless it is and the display order is just wrong, but I doubt
 that). I believe if outgoing presence is caught by the "attempt to send
 presence before roster retrieved" stuff that it doesn't print to the
 window at all so the room join presence seems to actually be going out to
 the wire.
