Comment:

 I've never had a problem with my firewall before; I'll check that and all
 my security. I find it strange I can connect to any of those protocols on
 their web-hosted services, but not on Pidgin. I don't understand why
 that's an issue with 2.3.1 when 2.2.1 didn't have this issue.

 I'll continue the investigation and let you know what I find.
