  This isn't at all strange, connecting via a web portal to an IM service
 is very different from a network perspective than connecting with a non-
 HTTP protocol.  Also, with the way that software firewalls work,
 connecting with the native client (or via your browser) can be quite
 different than connecting with pidgin.

  I can't speculate as to why this may be, nothing dramatic in our network
 code has changed recently, which makes it unlikely that this is caused by
 pidgin.
