 Today, I went back to my investigation with fresh zeal. I downloaded and
 started the USB version of Pidgin. I set it up and let it try connecting.
 The USB version always always works. Well...it didn't. It refused to
 connect. It really is a connection issue and I'm convinced that even with
 2.2.1 it would've suddenly stopped connecting.

 My firewall isn't blocking Pidgin at all, so I'm still confused. My best
 guess at this point is that the port is being used or blocked. Which port
 does Pidgin use? Any advice as to any next steps?
