Comment:

 Well the problem is that it is annoying.
 When I am going online, the reason is in 50% I want to send message to
 someone.
 I must wait 2 seconds for no reason.
 I think very few users use status messages at all and almost nobody use it
 with "online"
 status. I would prefer this message editing disabled by default, but I
 respect
 developers' choice. So I need a preference option do disable it.

 If such option is implemented:

 1) users who need it would be happy

 2) users who do not need it would not be forced to use it.

 This preference option would make Pidgin better and there is no
 disadvantage of it.
 So this is the reason this should be implemented IMHO.
