Comment:
There are a number of problems with this ticket and its identical twin
comment on #451:
1. The misconception that trolling our ticket system is going to get you
what you want
1. The misconception that trolling our ticket system isn't a waste of
both your time and ours
1. The misconception that trolling our ticket system is appropriate
1. The misconception that we simply ignore all user requests--in this
specific case, some of us have stated that we would love to see a
legitimate use case for the protocol icons on the buddy list (none of
those presented to date are legitimate use cases; instead they are simply
side effects of a misfeature)
1. The misconception that whining users who don't contribute to the
project have a right to demand sweeping changes against the will of those
who actually do contribute
!. The misconception that anyone here would even consider another
rename, after all the crap we went through for this one.
1. It was Gaim or gaim, not GAIM.
1. The intentional complete ignoring of the fact that a plugin can
provide these stupid icons for the whiners who want them. Someone just
needs to get off his/her lazy ass and write it. It won't be us, however.
Tough luck.
I'm already very unpopular with the user crowd, so I'll just be completely
frank here. Anyone who doesn't like the direction we're going in can do
one of three things:
1. Shut up and live with it
1. Find another piece of software--many alternatives exist
1. Fork Pidgin
Anyone choosing the third option will likely as a result discover that
it's a lot of hard work to maintain this code and give up at the
realization. Best of luck though.
Duplicate of whining tickets #414, #451, and others. Also invalid because
this Trac is for Pidgin, not forks or solicitations for forks.
