Comment:

 The status selection in the selector is global, you aren't selecting for
 an account. The startup status presence in preferences isn't an "on
 connect" status it is an "on pidgin start" status. When you select
 'Available' from the status selector you are making that the current
 status and it will apply to all 'Enabled' accounts (unless the status is
 custom and has exceptions, see the New... dialog for that).
 Similarly, accounts aren't "autologin" or "not autologin" they are
 "enabled" or "disabled". Disabled accounts are always offline, enabled
 accounts are in whatever state pidgin sets them to, in normal cases that
 is the currently active global status.

 Make sense?
