Comment (by dmmiller2k):

This is exactly the same symptom I am seeing, using Pidgin 2.0.2 on WinXP
SP2 with ZoneAlarm 7.0.337 (latest version as of today).

After reading the thread above, I started to wonder whether the problem
had anything to do with some sort of proxy I may have been running without
knowing it, and as it turns out, Zome Alarm had something called IM
Security, which has three settings, Off, Medium and High (security) and
which I have had set to Medium through many versions (of both GAIM/Pidgin
 and Zone Alarm) now.

Turning this setting to Off just now seemed to do the trick! Once I
turned it to Off and restarted Pidgin, it seemed to stay logged into AIM
 again.

sfranklin1717, maybe you have some firewall running which attempts to be a
transparent IM proxy? I have no experience with anything except Zone
Alarm, so I have no idea how to turn yours off in just this one area, but
there must be a way to do it.

Anyway, where might I find 2.0.1 in case I decide to try that version with
IM Security set to Medium again?
