 Ok, I have had a play around out-of-office and now can better describe the
 issue.

 (1) The first time I installed & ran Pidgin it displayed exactly what
 Sametime displayed - all people and groups correct, all buddies correctly
 on/offline.

 (2) Running Pidgin the following and subsequent days, many online buddies
 are incorrectly displayed offline.

 (3) I have my Sametime buddies arranged in multiple groups. Pidgin usually
 displays the first online person in each group correctly and the rest are
 offline.

 (4) If a buddy is incorrectly listed 'Offline'. Dragging the buddy into a
 different group will refresh their name and correctly display them
 'Online' (!!)
