 When speaking to people in languages with extra characters (eg. äåéö), I
 currently have to enter those characters in another program, copy and
 paste.  It would be very useful for pidgin to allow either or both of the
 Windows (alt + nnn) and UNIX (ctrl + shift + hh) forms of entering ASCII
 characters.  I'm sure 1.x allowed the UNIX form.
