 Actually, I noticed that if a person is not on my buddy list, the
 conversation window icon does show the IM service icon but if they ARE on
 my buddylist, it just shows the green ball.

 Why not show the client icon for everybody? It's one of the features that
 I LOVED about Gaim (and absolutely HATED the lack of it in Adium) and now
 Pidgin removed that feature. Why? Can it be added back, perhaps as an
 option if adding it as a default is too hard?

 Why is this relevant you ask? Well, most of my friends have accounts on
 both yahoo and aim. My boyfriend, for example, has 2 accounts on yahoo
 that he uses for work and cellphone and one on aim that he uses when he's
 at his computer. How the am I supposed to know which one he's talking to
 me on? Why does that matter? Ok, I can't send him links and pictures when
 he's on his cellphone. I can't send him certain links and certain pictures
 to his WORK account, shall I go on? And that's just My case. Other people
 have a problem with it and I'm sure they have a lot of other scenarios. If
 this violates some kind of guidelines can't you come up with your own
 representation of each client like Trillian did (i.g. yellow ball for aim,
 red ball for yahoo, etc.) ??
