 That doesn't sound right.

 We've been installing and probing libpurple for weeks now. If you tested
 it this morning, you may have been hit by the fact that I changed the
 #define to PURPLE_PLUGINS but configure.ac was still defining
 GAIM_PLUGINS.

 This was fixed with my commit where I was surprised --disable-plugins
 still worked.
