 Okay, with "never" set, it would not compute idle time, and thus should
 not be putting you away automatically.  Mouse and keyboard usage only
 affect what Pidgin does when idle time is set to "by mouse and keyboard
 usage" (exact wording might vary), and even then, only change your state
 when it was Pidgin that marked you as idle to start.

 for that option to be available, you have to compile with support for the
 "X screensaver extention" which is different from xscreensaver the
 program.  The package that provides this varies by distro & version of X.
