 The idea of the dot was really just to show a change in the green circle
 if there's a new message waiting, so it just changes to the same icon but
 with a dot inside it.  Or the color could be changed.  But no blinking.
 ;-)

 Attached is a screenshot of the Pidgin and Outlook 2003 new message/mail
 icons next to each other.
