 OK, I understand you don't want to implement such a feature.  I wouldn't
 be surprised that others will ask for such a feature once this goes into
 the final version and more people start using it.

 I DO understand the reasoning not to care which protocol someone IMs you
 on, but many geeks do care.  I know there are ways that I can handle this
 individually using different methods.

 I do want to stress that I do REALLY REALLY like the new interface, I just
 thought losing this information would confuse some current users.  Time
 will tell if people really care about it.
