 gaim many many versions ago used to have protocol groupings and that was
 rather hated, when we switched away from it we heard virtually nothing but
 thanks from the users. If you want to go back to that you can sort your
 buddy
 list that way yourself. You could also write a plugin to respond to known
 group names and create a Change Account Status submenu. I've been thinking
 about a similar sort of plugin myself though probably not in the buddy
 list
 like that because it doesn't really belong there.
