 Do you want the good news or the bad news?

 Bad news is: all my testing has been worthless because having worked on
 the soname patch my pidgin has been pointing to an older copy of libpurple
 (with a newer soname - that's what I was previously testing), so when I
 said I'd "tested this" it meant I had built and installed it but my pidgin
 was still using an older binary. Sorry guys!

 Good news is: I haven't actually tested any of these fixes, so they
 probably work!
