 Erich Kreutzer will be working on the Bonjour prpl in the way Mark alluded
 to in his comment above.  An Avahi conversion will definitely be a good
 thing, as one of the goals of that work will be to have callbacks
 registered with the prpl by the UI so that it can provide the mDNS stack
 it wants to use. On Linux, Pidgin and Finch will use Avahi, so your code
 (or a later iteration of it) would power that, and on OS X, Adium would
 use Apple's mDNSResponder.
