good place for you to start on this.

God knows I tried, didn't work, though. Also there're clients out there
which don't encourage changing the status, there're also clients out there
 which don't submit idle status.

 > I mostly agree that putting the protocol icons back in the conversation
window somewhere would be a good idea and will likely get to working on a
plugin for such sometime in the near future.

That sounds promising, thanks. I'm more than willing to beta test this.

 > I, however, still strongly think putting them back in the buddy list is
 a poor idea.

Maybe another column could be introduced, either between the status icons
and the contact name or between the contact name and the buddy icon (or
even right of the buddy icon), of course the user gets to decide if he
 wants them shown or not.
I don't think it's a poor idea, it's just another way of organizing your
contacts, why not let the user decide?[[BR]]
As I said before, my main concern is the protocol icons in the
 conversation window.

 > I would however accept a system to add keybindings to switching the
currently active conversation in the conversation window (instead of
needing to mouse over to Send To) which method should likely print a
message in the conversation window as it switches.

That would be a nice thing, too, what with all the time wasted by pushing
 the mouse around. ^_^
