 I'm asuming you mean ~/.purple rather tham ~/.pidgin. After moving ~/.gaim
 and my ~/.purple the problem persists so it's no migration issue.

 pidgin yourself, I could attach a patch here to add some additional debug
 output. Otherwise, I'll try to get some additional debug messages added in
 before 2.0.1 and we can revist the problem then.

 Compiling Pidgin is no problem, the version I'm using now is self-compiled
 as well.
