 When I right-click a buddy in the buddy list and click "Get Info," i get
 the "Retrieving..." dialog --
 when I use the conversation menu in an IM, the same thing happens --
 when I use control-O in an IM, the same thing happens..

 but when i use Control-O from the buddy list, i do not get the pending
 dialog, and the buddy's info pops up randomly some time later: no pending
 dialog.
 Of course, Control-O works perfectly from the list when the buddy is using
 AIM or another protocol that doesn't take forever to return info or
 require web parsing.
