 This bug has been known about for quite a while actually (for several
 versions, but I forget which one it started).  It is best NOT to rename
 any groups that use the OSCAR protocol as you may loose those contacts.  I
 also suggest getting the listhandler plugin from
 http://plugins.guifications.org/trac (it is in the plugin pack).  This
 will allow you to backup your list.  Though you only will want to restore
 it if you have to, as it may ask for auhtorization from contacts that have
 that feature turned on.  However it is much better than loosing the
 contacts entirely.

 Also moving OSCAR contacts around may cause you to loose them as well.  So
 I would avoid that in addition to renaming groups.

 If you must move contacts around, rename them, or rename groups I suggest
 (for now anyway) downloading the offical AIM or ICQ clients to do this.
 You shouldn't loose anything and the changes should be updated in Pidgin
 the next time you run it.
