 But I did exit pidgin with the blist shown.

 In my prefs.xml, list_visible stays '0' after exiting with blist shown.
 Editing prefs.xml and changing list_visible to '1' shows the blist at the
 next startup.

 > If you don't see that line (specifically value='1'), then run pidgin
 with the following command to produce another debug.log and hide/unhide
 the blist a few times:
 >
 >     pidgin -d | egrep '(gtkblist|docklet|prefs)' > debug.log

 attached as pidgin2.log. Pidgin had been exited with blist shown, started
 with blist hidden and was shut down with blist shown.
