I really don't see how anyone could honestly think that hiding relevant
information from the user could be a _good_ idea, but as usual Ted
Sturgeon's wisdom continues to surprise me. The fundamental rule of
designing an application is this: The user owns the software. You don't.
 The
user knows what the user wants to do. You don't. You can _guess_ what the
user wants to do, but your action on this guess should extend only as far
 as
making the most likely thing the easiest to do. When it comes to making
 the
next-most-likely thing impossible for no technical reason, you've entered
the realm of "I know better than the user." And you don't. You never do.

Removing prpl-specific icons is another change which, like so many in the
runup to 2.0, provides a tangible benefit to no one, while alienating
thousands of users. The only thing that it serves is a _document_. But the
document is evidently more important than the users. I don't understand
that, but maybe it's something they put in the GNOME kool-aid. In any
 case,
post isn't about icons -- ugly and confusing as they are. It's about
 users.
If you, the developers, are no longer interested in serving the users,
 then
please have the decency to put pidgin up for adoption. Stand aside and let
someone with a view of the real world take over -- without the stigma of a
 fork. For the users.
