Comment:

I'd like to share a few thoughts, on the design side.

 - as I remember, gaim used to place the same icon in the window title,
taskbar button and tab, with visual representation varying according to
buddy state. this was a good thing, IMHO.
 - now I only see in the taskbar the buddy avatar.
 - now i see contradicting information in buddy window: the title contains
the avatar, the tab contains the state icon. the buddy list will dim the
avatar if idle and grey the avatar if offline. the window title shows the
avatar in full color always. So there are somewhat contradictory visual
cues given to the user and it would be nice to have them in a more uniform
way, and also, evolution from older gaim versions, 2betas included, this
 looks as a loss.
 - I would vote towards using the active tab icon (according to buddy
state) and using the avatar (shrinked) if available, with dimmed and
greyed versions according to buddy state, just as in buddy list.
 - as an alternative, I would suggest using the active tab icon (icons
showing buddy online/available state) combined with the pidgin logo, to
give the conversation window a uniform branding as well. (see second
 attachement for suggestions)
 - or they just could be the same icons as used for system-tray icon (to
show MY status in the systray) (for window title and taskbar button)
