 After Pidgin displays a new GMail message notification, the notification
 does not go away after the message has been read in GMail. The user needs
 to manually turn it off by clicking on Pidgin and closing the
 notification, or by opening the notification details.
 As an experiment, I sent myself a message to my GMail. I got the
 notification of 1 new message. When I sent another message, the
 notification got updated to 2 new messages. When I read and deleted the
 new messages, the notification did not go away.
 It's very convenient to have Pidgin notifications (they're faster than
 GMail and even Gtalk), but it's inconvenient to have to manually reset
 them after reading the messages.
