 A menu of that sort quickly stops scaling when you have more than one
 account connected, especially when you consider that pidgin would need to
 list every group that pidgin knows about (that is every group that any
 account in pidgin has ever had). Groups in pidgin are not tied to
 accounts, that is how you can have buddies from more than one account in
 the same group. If you have four accounts each with nine groups (as far as
 each account is concerned) the dropdown menu in pidgin would be 36 entries
 long, which I trust you understand is even less useful than needing to
 drag and drop. (For reference, here at work where I have significantly
 less accounts set up than at home, I have 19 groups.) Since groups have
 become single click the effort required to collapse/expand them really is
 minimal. A plugin to add a dropdown like this is likely the best way to do
 it.
