Comment (by deryni):
When you hit 'use' in the New... dialog the status from that dialog is
applied to pidgin, all of your enabled accounts are set to the status you
set in the main section and any specific exceptions you have set in the
bottom section are used for those specific accounts, hence "use a
different status for some accounts" since the section is letting you
override the global status ("use a different status") for only and exactly
the accounts you want ("for some accounts"). See how that works?
The 'custom status' bit in sim sounds *exactly* like the global status in
pidgin only operating in the reverse. It sounds like sim doesn't keep a
global status but instead pushes status changes to each account, whereas
pidgin does keep a global status and allows for specific accounts to set
exceptions to override that.
I think the 'real' issue here is that you found the New... dialog
extremely confusing for some reason. Can you explain what exactly was so
confusing, or what we might do to make it less confusing?
And secondly you seem to want an easier per-account on-the-fly setting of
status, for which the mystatusbox plugin may do exactly what you want.
pidgin intentionally does not have such an option built in anymore,
because the reaction to per-account status selectors was one of
*overwhelming* confusion and great feelings of "why would I ever want
that". As a result pidgin removed the feature and left it up to plugins to
provide it.
