 The reason for this decision, as I recall, is that the single tab is
 really only really duplicate information when it is directly adjacent to
 the infopane, which isn't the case for side or bottom tabs. Also, when
 using side or bottom tabs if you are closing tabs with the tab X buttons
 when you close the second to last tab removing the tab bar would cause you
 the need to move the mouse a significantly larger difference than is
 desirable to hit the last X. I believe there might have been a couple more
 reasons but I don't recall offhand.
