 I really don't know.  I took ownership of the entire AppData\Roaming
 directory, and granted myself full control over that folder and everything
 in it.  The .purple folder says it has inherited its permissions from the
 AppData\Roaming folder, and upon checking the properties, all seems to be
 in order.  I don't know what else to do.
 After I'd done all that, I opened Pidgin as an Administrator, and all went
 fine.  No errors logged.  Opened it again, as both Admin and the regular
 way, settings gone.
 :(
