 The .xml files for account settings, prefs, buddy lists, etc. were dumping
 themselves every time I closed and reopened Pidgin.  I think I got it
 fixed.

 1 - I set up all accounts while running as Administrator, with the .purple
 folder open
 2 - once all prefs were set, I copied all .xml files and pasted them
 elsewhere
 3 - closed Pidgin (.xml files reverted) and reopened as a regular user
 4 - pasted .xml files back into the .purple folder, leaving the reverted
 blank save files intact.  Set all .xml prefs files to read only.

 I closed Pidgin and reopened it again, again as a regular user, and it
 seems to have worked!
