Comment:

 Well, if it's minimized to the tray, nothing I do will bring it back.
 Like I said, there is space for an icon, but no actual icon.  So, clicking
 in the space (left or right) doesn't do anything.

 If I try launching again I get a message saying that an instance of Pidgin
 is already running.

 I just noticed if I hover my cursor over the empty space I get a tooltip
 that says "Pidgin - Away", but clicking in the area doesn't do anything.
