#4175: Pidgin deletes my ICQ contacts if I move them to another group

This is an old bug I found in Gaim, but still remains today.
I'm using Pidgin on Win2k. When I try to move an ICQ contact to another
group (either by drag-and-drop, or using the new "Move to" menu item),
everything seems okay. The buddy disappears from the old group, and re-
 appears in the new one.
I log off. The next time I log on the contact is gone from both groups. If
I log on with the original ICQ client I can confirm: my contact has really
 been deleted from my list.
At least in the old days Gaim gave me error messages that it couldn't move
my contacts to the new groups. Of course it deleted them anyway.
It's quite irritating. When it's a buddy that requires authorization, I
have to ask for authorization again.
Why does Pidgin have this functionality at all if it does not work? It
 really just causes permanent damage.
I used Trillian earlier. They couldn't manage the ICQ groups either, but
they were smart enough not to bother trying. It never downloaded the ICQ
group list, it created a new one inside its buddy xml and managed that
one. Pidgin however always updates the buddy groups from ICQ and messes
 things up.
