Comment:

 This doesn't happen to me.  Are you sure you're not using a Firefox
 extension that enables this "feature"?

 Pidgin certainly isn't splitting the URLs unless you have a plugin to make
 it do something wacky.

 Which protocol did you recieve the message containing the URL on?

 At any rate, it isn't a security issue.
