 This really does work flawlessly for me

 schoen: Is it still not working for you?  Does it work for ANYONE?  (You
 can force Pidgin to re-fetch icons by exiting then moving your
 ~/.purple/blist.xml out of the way.  When you're done testing you might
 want to exit Pidgin again and move the file back into place to be sure you
 don't lose any data)

 If it's only not working for you for certain people, do you know what
 client they're using?  Could it be a problem with their particular buddy
 icon?
