 Thanks so much for your very very prompt and helpful reply :-D

 I set the port back to 5222, ticked "Require SSL/TLS", left the other
 options unticked and it connected successfully (after I "accepted" the
 untrusted certificate).

 Just to explain - I got the idea for setting the port to 5269 from this
 post (my misinterpretation it seems):
