 Places where C-f "last character problem" DOES NOT occur:

 * Buddy alias field.
 * Account add/edit dialog fields.
 * Search dialogs.
 * Add buddy dialog fields.

 FYI, the above fields work alright even without your .gtkrc-2.0 hack.

 Places where it occurs:

 * Conversation message field in conversation windows.
 * Custom status field at the bottom of the buddy list.
 * Preferences -> Conversations -> Default formatting box.

 I tested a couple of other GTK applications (gFTP and GIMP), and the
 behaviour is identical - issue occurs only in rich text input areas
 (multi-line inputs, as you called them). Possibly a GTK "bug".
