 I've seen the problem, too... I'm using pidgin 2.1.1 (us_US locale and
 whatever is pidgin's default encoding for ICQ). I have 2-3 ppl on my list
 using QIP, all of them germans (also using german locale). I see the same
 thing as shown on the screenshot: non-ascii characters (ä, ö, ü, ß, €)
 turning to cyrillic characters.

 Is there some way to make sure this is *not* a pidgin bug? I don't really
 know what to think here...
