 Submitting tickets for support questions seems fine.  But since so many
 places discourage it, such a policy ought to be stated clearly, which is
 easy enough to do in the FAQ.

 Asking users to join a mailing list for support, especially a developers
 mailing list, seems wrong.  I know it used to be done a lot, but there are
 better options.

 I understand that some people don't like forums (I don't much care for
 most forum software), but it really is the most popular way for community
 support these days.
