Comment (by rudidude86):

I still have this issue with Pidgin 2.2.0 on Windows XP SP2, GTK+ 2.10.13,
Glib 2.12.12, with no plug-ins enabled.

I realized the conditions to make this happen are a little more
complicated than I initially thought... it seems like the only time the
spaces get trimmed are when one copies text from a multi-line text box in
Pidgin and then directly pastes it into to a multi-line text box in
 Pidgin.

If you copy text with spaces at the beginning/end from any other source (a
single-line Pidgin text box or even from some other application), pasting
it into a multi-line text box keeps the spaces intact correctly.

Additionally, if you copy text with spaces at the beginning/end from a
multi-line text box, when you paste it into a single-line text box or
another application, the spaces again correctly remain with the text.

So you can copy text from the multi-line text box, paste it into another
program, copy that exact same text and paste it back into the original
multi-line text box and the spaces get pasted just fine. Quite the work-
around to send "hey hey hey hey hey hey" to a friend... ;)
