Comment:

 If the same pidgin setup with the same plugin preferences works under the
 other configurations and not under the KDE3/compiz combination then
 something is wrong, broken, or turned off in that configuration. It is
 really almost impossible for this to be a pidgin problem given the
 scenario as explained. Feel free to check what 'xprop WM_HINTS' says on
 the conversation windows when they should have the hint set in both the
 working and non-working cases. It should say "The visible hint bit is set"
 when the urgent hint is on and not otherwise. If you can see it saying
 that when the window isn't doing whatever you expect it to be doing in
 your window manager/desktop environment then pidgin isn't at fault.
