> I just signed up to bemoan this regression and ask for it to be changed
back. This really impacts the usability of the application and of all my
friends who use Pidgin, not a single one likes it (most have already
downgraded to 2.3, and the rest will soon).
It feels to me that this new feature, which many people don't like, for
different reasons, probably took some work to write and to imply that it
should be thrown out is a little short sighted. Some are uncomfortable
with the size changing automatically, others like me don't like the
minimum size, and there are/were a couple minor bugs associated. This bug
should be likened more to a discussion as to how to improve the usability
of pidgin for the trillions of users. Seaneagan had a nice bolded list
waaaaay back in [comment:26 #26]
> Why are the developers being so obstinate? It's beyond me. This is a
change that has only pissed people off and harmed your project.
I would disagree that arrogance or stubbornness has been displayed here on
the part of pidgin developers. I haven't seen it, maybe I've missed it.
Those commenter's that I have identified in my mind as pidgin developers
seem to either be asking what exactly peoples complaints are or growing
tired of having to keep asking. "I don't like it, get rid of it" is not
very constructive criticism.
Now I'd personally prefer a check box on the interface tab of preferences
to disable auto-size. I get why it was designed, and I understand that UI
people don't like options (look at any Web 2.0 website these days). I'd
personally compromise with the minimum being a larger number of lines, but
I love Pidgin, I love that it's open source, and I appreciate that these
folks are trying to improve it on a regular basis.
> I now no longer recommend Pidgin to neophytes, and I will be
contributing time and money to the FunPidgin fork.
> What a terrible idea, and what terrible arrogance on display here by the
developers, free software or not.
Your reaction feels a mite harsh and short tempered.
